As a member of the technical team, the appointee will be responsible for
(a) providing support and management services for the Department’s IT infrastructure and systems;
(b) administering Linux-based and Windows servers, PCs, Macs, printers, network equipment, and firewall to ensure optimal performance and security;
(c) managing public IP gateway, configuring SSH tunnelling and jump server, managing server port for departmental public IP addresses;
(d) setting up and managing High Performance Computing (HPC) cluster platforms for research and teaching activities within the Department;
(e) coordinating with hardware vendors and support services for maintenance and repair of HPC equipment;
(f) maintaining Linux virtual machines (VMs) in Azure cloud computing platform for instructional purposes;
(g) monitoring system performance and perform health checks to ensure the optimal functioning of IT systems;
(h) assisting Chairperson to draft proposals for equipment grant applications, focusing on areas such as computer laboratories upgrades and HPC resources;
(i) planning and executing Department’s system/networking/Computer Laboratories’ infrastructure upgrades and maintenance;
(j) providing day-to-day technical support to the Department for learning, teaching and research activities;
(k) offering Procurement’s support (computing equipment) for staff;
(l) managing the operation of Departmental computer laboratories;
(m) providing consultation for programming languages including but not limited to C, Fortran, Python, R, Matlab, Mathematica, CUDA, LaTeX, SAS, SPSS, open source software, Learning Management System (Blackboard), and Video Conferencing Tools such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams;
(n) acting as Departmental IT representative; and
(o) undertaking other tasks as assigned by the Chairperson or his delegates.
Applicants should have
(i) a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related disciplines;
(ii) scientific computing knowledge in Linux cluster with GPU;
(iii) proficiency in Windows, Windows Server, Mac OS and common desktop applications;
(iv) good knowledge of various programming languages such as Python, R, open source software, etc.;
(v) experience in website content management, social media publishing and multi-media applications such as Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere etc. is highly desirable;
(vi) good analytical, problem-solving, organisational and communication skills; and
(vii) a good command of spoken and written English and Chinese, proficiency in Putonghua is an advantage. Having several years of relevant post-qualification experience in academic institutions is preferred.
Appointment will initially be made on a 1-year contract, renewable subject to good performance and mutual agreement.
