DEPARTMENT OF BUILDING AND REAL ESTATETechnical Officer (Ref. 241216007)
DutiesThe appointee will need to play an important role in the management of the Building Technology Laboratory (the laboratory). He/She will be required to:
(a) perform daily laboratory routines for its manning and upkeeping;
(b) provide technical support to teaching staff for teaching activities, to students and researchers for project preparation;
(c) assist in the purchase of materials and equipment of the laboratory;
(d) monitor and log data of tests and measurements;
(e) perform continuous development and maintenance of the laboratory’s instrumentation infrastructure, such as 3D printers, robotic arms etc.;
(f) provide technical assessment and advice on technological advances to support the improvement and development of different technical facilities, equipment, and platforms for teaching, research and administration;
(g) assist in the operation of departmental health and safety issues; and
(h) perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Unit or his/her delegates.
The appointee is required to work on irregular hours and occasionally on weekday evenings, and on Saturdays, Sundays or public holidays.
QualificationsApplicants should:
(a) have a recognised degree with five or more years of relevant experience, or a recognised certificate / diploma with eight or more years of relevant experience;
(b) have proven experience in project planning and management, as well as in training and delivering instruction;
(c) have proven experience in the use of modern computer-based instrumentation hardware (such as National Instrument) and software (such as LABVIEW) or similar;
(d) have proven experience in modern electronics and digital signal processing;
(e) have proven experience in using various kinds of transducer technology, such as strain-gauges, LVDT, load cell, thermal couples, piezoelectric accelerometers, ultrasonic sensors and pressure gauges etc; and
(f) be able to work independently and under pressure, and perform multi-tasks.
Preference will be given to those with higher academic qualifications and good supervisory experience, valid licenses of operating electric forklift and lifting gear, and experience in working at laboratories and/or workshops in local tertiary institutions.

Conditions of Service A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
