Responsibilities
1. Client Communication:
Primary Point of Contact: Serve as the main liaison for vessel clients and internal stakeholders on all accounting-related matters, including monthly financial reports, Opex budget discussions, funding requests, and variance analysis. For example, proactively communicate when Opex variances exceed thresholds, leading to early corrective actions and improved budget compliance
Variance Explanation: Clearly explain Opex variance reports to clients
Budget Collaboration: Support vessel budgeting and forecasting activities, ensuring clients have full visibility into cost drivers and funding needs
2. Financial Reporting:
Critical Task: Prepare and review vessel financial statements and owner-requested reports, ensuring accuracy and completeness for both routine and ad hoc needs
Budget Control: Monitor vessel costs versus approved budgets, flagging potential overruns to the Technical and MHR teams
Month-End Closing: Oversee month-end processes to ensure all transactions are completely and accurately captured within each reporting period
Balance Sheet Oversight: Review and follow up on vessel account balance sheet items, ensuring reconciliations are current and discrepancies are promptly addressed
Compliance Support: Support SOX compliance and internal/external audits by providing requested documentation and ensuring adherence to regulatory standards
3. Team Leadership:
Supervision and Training: Lead, supervise, and mentor the vessel accounting team, delivering on-the-job training that results in improved team performance and reduced error rates
Cross-Functional Guidance: Provide financial insights to technical and operations teams, promoting financial awareness and supporting better decision-making for overall vessel performance
4. Process Improvements:
ERP Enhancements: Ensure vessel budgets are accurately maintained within the ERP system
Continuous Improvement: Identify and drive workflow efficiencies through regular process reviews, adoption of digital solutions, and feedback from cross-functional partner
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Bachelor of Science in Accountancy, or related discipline
5 years’ experience in vessel accounting area is preferrable
Good knowledge of accounting principles and practices
Use of Microsoft office such as Excel, Word, Powerpoint
Good communication skills
Good command of written and spoken English
Good supervisory skills
Attentive to details and can work under time pressure
